 Interesting Idioms

More fun with idioms - this time on a Jeopardy-style gameboard, in a game developed by Speech-Language Pathologist Tracy Boyd. In this slightly more difficult version, players have to enter the missing word. (Skills: identifying and understanding idioms)

 Awesome Antonyms Match-Up

Another game from Tracy Boyd. Here, players can use their knowledge of antonyms to play games in a match-up, flashcards, or concentration format. (Skill: understanding antonyms)

 Twosies

A 1- or 2-player game in which the object is to complete the pairs of words that often go together, like "pins and ________"  (Skill: word retrieval)

 Homographs

Similar to Twosies, but in this game players must guess which word is described by two different definitions.  Example: "a place for stray animals" and "16 ounces." (Skills: multiple meanings, context)

 Super Synonyms Rhyme Time

A fun, but sometimes challenging, game in which players guess the rhyming phrase represented by words like "cranky cat." (Answer: "crabby tabby")  (Skills: synonyms, rhyming sounds)

 Stay Afloat
 WordMeister

Online versions of the old classic, Hangman.  (Skills: letter patterns, word retrieval)

 Reading Exercises

Two nicely designed exercises in which players answer questions based on a short story, in a multiple choice format. (Skills: reading comprehension, story and sentence structure, sequencing)

 Writing Den

With several passages and quizzes to choose from, this is a great site to develop and practice writing/reading skills at the high school level.  (Skills: reading comprehension, story and sentence structure, organization and editing skills, critical thinking)
