Math Skills
BBC Online has developed this "Cadillac" of
online math games! If you don't have Shockwave already, it's worth
downloading just for this site alone. Players can take a chance on the
high school math game wheel or select their own favorite from among these comical,
beautifully designed, and increasingly challenging interactive games:
Grid Game (factors, multiples, powers, prime and
triangular numbers) Saloon Snap (decimals, fractions, and
percentages) Builder Ted (ordering whole numbers, decimals, and negative
numbers) Rounding Off (rounding off to whole numbers, significant figures,
and decimal points) Fish Tank (probabilities) Train Race
(median, mean, and
range) Data Picking (data collection, frequency table, interpreting
charts) Bathroom Tiles (rotation, reflection, translation) Animal Weigh In
(metric and imperial measurements) Planet Hop (value of X and Y, algebraic
functions) Late Delivery (substitution in algebra) Equation Match
(algebraic equations)
Players try to beat the computer's car to the finish
line by choosing mathematical expressions that have the highest value.
Range of difficulty levels. (Skills: mathematical operations,
problem-solving, comparative skills)
Fun with integers-? It's possible! (Skills:
integers, number lines)
Once they've mastered integers, players will enjoy this
game, where the goal is to complete the missing blanks in
equations. (Skills:
integers, order of operations, trial and error)
A fast-paced, Concentration-style game of
matching equivalent fractions. (Skill: simplifying fractions)
Players can improve their processing and retrieval
speeds of simple arithmetic operations with this arcade-type space game. (Skill:
reinforcement of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
tables)
Solve area and perimeter problems to reveal the picture
of an archaelogical treasure. Different difficulty levels. (Skills:
math & pre-geometry)
Players try to beat their best scores by locating points
on a simple graph. (Skills: graphs)
Figure out the pattern in a series of numbers and fill
in the missing one, in a game with increasing degrees of difficulty. Hint
- have a calculator ready for the tough ones! (Skills:
identifying mathematical patterns and sequences)
