1952 - 2004

It's with great sadness we announce that Sue Thompson passed away at her California home on Friday, April 16, 2004, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.

Visitors to this site are probably all aware of Sue Thompson's contribution to the NLD community. Most of us have a well-thumbed copy of her book, The Source for Nonverbal Learning Disorders, on our bookshelf. Sue began writing and speaking publicly about NLD long before most educators and psychologists had even heard of it. She touched the lives of countless children and their families, both personally and indirectly, through her educational interventions that are now the standard. She was a trailblazer, who marked the path others will be following for years to come. Quite simply, Sue was the best friend the NLD community ever had.

Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed so generously to the Friends of Sue Thompson Trust Fund, established last year. Because of your efforts, Sue was able to undergo treatments that eased her suffering and extended her life. And even more than that, it let her know she had the love and support of so many people, all over the world - which touched her very deeply.

Donations made be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, by clicking here. By indicating your memorial gift is for Sue Thompson, an acknowledgement card will be sent directly to Sue's family.

If you have questions about donating, please call St. Jude's Donor Services department at 1-800-822-6344  or e-mail them at donors@stjude.org.

Personal condolence cards may be sent to the following address, and will be forwarded unopened to Sue's family.
